Perpetuum Mortale

Perpetuum Mortale (Forever Mortal) combines recycled 19th c. photographs (tintypes, carte-de-visites, cabinet cards)` with butterflies photographed from a university collection. In ancient and indigenous cultures, butterflies symbolized various things such as death and rebirth, spirits, and  transformation. As in my series Past/Present, the intended results deal with memory and loss.
